We all know what church chairs are right? This is the chair that we use when we go to our churches and hear mass. But do we really know the history? In the olden days, the church actually discouraged people to attend the congregation because they could not accommodate numerous people due to lack of chairs. Money was scarce and a lot of churches were in despair. They were unable to do repairs and buy new furniture. Centuries ago, churches that had pews or chairs were charged rent. This rent was paid by someone who wanted the comfort of a chair. For most people this rent was too expensive, and were forced to stand by the side of the isle. And for those who wanted the benefit of seating next to the main isle, they were charged more. Eventually, time changed and now we have comfortable, durable, and elegant church chairs.
