Manas was selected in 1921 for conservation of wild life and has a wide variety of bird and animal life which includes pigmy hogs, golden langur, elephants, great Indian rhinos, wild buffaloes, wild pigs, sambaed swamp deer, hog deer etc. It is also noted for its avifauna. During winter hundreds of winged species migrate to the friendlier environs of Manas National Park. Among them are river- chats, fork tails, cormorants and ducks: The other birds are hornbills and the great pied horn bills. Flights to Dibrugarh is also available here. The best season to visit this sanctuary is from December to April. Between February and March it is an angler’s paradise when the waters abound in fishes.
